GRAD703 – Week 09

Waves, The evolution of the Chinese characters

Methodology development

After a week of consideration, I couldn’t find any other methodology that fits better than historiography; on top of that, I might also add some elements of ethnography as I was interested in learning something about semiotics. I was very keen to learn the relationship between language development as a symbol and how they communicate an idea in different times or cultures.

I’ve planned the structure for chapter 3.

  • the idea of historiography and how they help with my research
  • explain the method used in the making of the products
  • summarise the method and methodology

this is still very rudimentary, as I haven’t put too much time into the writing, as I am still trying to find pieces of information for the publication. It got complex as I went, and I still have yet to find a good way to help me accelerate the process in terms of selecting characters and finding facts and interesting talking points for them.

Read of the week

I found a great book. On the university library. called The past is a foreign country by David Lowenthal. It could be a good read for chapter3.

Another book in the library was Elements of semiology by Roland Barthes, which is also potentially a good research to give read.
