GRAD701 – Week 08
PetPal animated logo
Recap of the week
- For this week, we have taken come feedback from the Monday and Wednesday class. We decided our logo and logotype will not be redesigned. It will cost us too much time to do another design and we still think the logo can be well used in selected situations such as large print, just need to get the brand guideline setup.
- At this stage, we must move fast to the next step, making prototype of what we’ve got. We went to Gordon Harris and bought some stock paper and packaging materials. And made an appointment with a screenprint workshop to test out our idea on Thursdays and Friday. We are also looking forward to making an appointment with the laser cutting workshop to design and assemble our packaging cage.
Publication
I’ve done most of the group publication and can go to the testing process to refine and make minor adjustments.
Poster
I found the idea of creating a tearing effect from one of the posters I saw on the street. I consider this can perfectly show one of the cat’s “bad” behaviours.
I realised I used many examples of cats being the “devil” in my design work. Therefore, I try to add more examples of other pets in the mix. The cat poster is in the final step. Now is moving to print testing.
Logo animation
Because Yiran is doing motion graphics and I do want our logo to be somewhat animated to make the brand more pronounce. The good thing about animating the logo is to grab more attention from the viewer and by using motion graphics, it is easier to showcase the brand element. The challenge was I basically never touched After Effect in my entire existence. It is rather difficult for me to animate just a simple thing like ear swinging. But it was still a great experience for me to try some new tools, especially with motion graphics as it is now and in the foreseeable future, a powerful medium of communication.
To do next
- Attending workshop doing the test with screenprint and laser cutting.
- Finishing and test print publication for the group.
- Start processing layout publication for the individual.
- Polishing poster design, try to unify the design illustration style.
- Finishing VI Guideline.
